Papaya Milkshake

Today's the first day of Ramadan! :) This is the month we so eagerly wait for... I am so grateful to all of you who have been leaving lovely comments for the information I am sharing regarding this blessed month. It feels nice to know that there are people who seek to understand other people's religions and traditions. It is only out of this feeling of compassion and understanding can a lot of things look positive... :)

Since from dawn to dusk we abstain from eating and drinking, most of the people tend to give a lot of importance to food. Definitely, food is important - what you eat truly determines the energy levels of the fasting time. Therefore, it is extremely important to know what you are eating. In our home, my umma and I make it a point to keep fried items to the minimum. Only when we have guests coming over or the men express their desire to eat something, do we make! Otherwise, for Iftar, which is the time when we break the fast towards sunset time, we make tharikanji (rava in milk), some fresh juice, water, dates and loads of fruits - yes, I am not exaggerating, loads! One whole plate of watermelon and the other plate mixed fruits. Once you have a couple of dates, a glass of water, the juice and tharikanji with some fruits, you will literally have no space for anything else! I really feel that such an eating schedule keeps the spirit of Ramadan intact where the main aim is to detoxify the soul and the body and if you stick to natural produce, nothing like it!

This is one powerpacked milkshake we love to serve for Iftar. We are more of a cut-and-eat rather than a cut-and-juice family, and there are only very few fruits that we prefer as juice than cut. Papaya is loved in both forms. Off to the way I make this simple milkshake, no complications at all! 

Papaya Milkshake
Serves 2-3


1 cup tightly packed cut peices of fresh papaya
2 cups milk
2 tbsp honey
1 scoop vanilla icecream (optional)
3-4 icecubes


Dump everything into a mixer and blend till smooth. Serve!
