It's been a sad start to this week. A colleague passed away after her brief battle with cancer. Nowadays, cancer is something so widespread that you don't know how to react to it. She was not close, but each time we saw each other, we would exchange salaams, smiles and "how are you"s. Somehow it is difficult to believe that last month, this time she was pretty much fine. After all, it is a reminder to all of us that death is an inevitable reality. We like to think that it would not come to us "now", but the fact remains that we are vulnerable to it at any moment - irrespective of our age, caste, position, power... "Every soul shall taste death...
" (Surah Aal-Imraan: part of verse 185) This is our warning and a reminder to us that we have to be constantly prepared for the ultimate truth. Inna Lillahi Wainna Ilaihi Raajioon - We are from Allah, and unto Him we return. May Allah forgive her sins and make it easy for her in her eternal journey... May He keep us humble and grounded, grand us peaceful deaths and an easy hereafter... Aameen...
Life has to move on... and a recipe has to come in... Nothing much in today's post... but a fusion dessert, made out of our humble Shrikand, mixed some Nutella into it and it was a hit among the kids, who licked it from the pan! I was a bit worried about the slight tang of the yogurt but it surprisingly paired well with the Nutella and gave it a nice punch! Off to the easy and straightforward dessert...
Nutella Shrikand - Nutella Yogurt Dessert
500 gm yogurt
3 tbsp Nutella
2 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp crushed hazelnuts
Empty the yogurt into a muslin cloth, hung over a bowl. Strain the yogurt for 3-4 hours in the fridge till the whey gets separated and you have thick hung yogurt.
Mix this hung yogurt with remaining ingredients using a whisk till well combined. Scoop into two ramekins and refrigerate for an hour to set. Enjoy!
Just to lighten up the mood, a Nutella joke...
